Following the success of the PMT stand at the initial Poole Harbour Boat Show in 2015, this year we increased our presence with a 6m x 3m double stand.
It proved a great success, as it gave members helping on the stand and visitors more space in which to enjoy our new display.
On show were ships trading with Poole from the days of sail to 1950s motor ships. Reports on the Studland Bay Wreck and the Swash Channel Wreck, pictures of Poole Quay, half models of yachts built by Southern Ocean Shipyard in Poole 1970-1992 and a wonderful selection of Charts of the Harbour from 1598-1950 showing how the channels in the harbour have changed over the years.
Saturday was very wet and we had a few visitors but Sunday was fine and mostly sunny and more than made up for the previous day. We were offered some archive material from a local shipyard, we signed up new members and talked to a lot of interested and interesting people.
We displayed our Book of Poole Harbour and sold some of Jeremy Waters’ Parkstone-on-Sea books.
We already looking forward to next year, which is the BIG ONE. Coinciding with European Maritime Week in Poole in May 2017.
