2019-2020 Talks and Suppers

1st October* “If it was easy everyone would be doing it.” Talk by Peter Lamb (member and archivist of Poole Maritime Trust) Operating Pleasure Boats from the last Sea Pier in the country.
24th October

Autumn Supper at 7pm Parkstone YC.

2 course meal followed by coffee and talk.

“The Life and Loves of Vice-Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson in Art” Talk by James Taylor, (curator of art at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich) Following Nelson’s life and loves through Art of the time.
5th November* “Commander Ian Fleming, Naval Intelligence” Talk by Kathy McNally The wartime work of the Author of James Bond novels.
3rd December* “Harbour Happenings” Presentation by Professor Bob Cripps, Chairman of the Poole Harbour Commissioners. Update of the work of the Harbour Commissioners over the last few years and plans for the future.
9th January 2020

New Year Supper

At the Royal Motor Yacht Club at 7 pm.

2 course Supper followed by after dinner talk.

“My Family & Other Setbacks.” Talk by Mel Rees

Raconteur and Author

Light-hearted view of modern life and its pitfalls.
4th February 2020* “Made in Poole- Carter and Co” Talk by Jo Amey

“The Tile Lady”

History of ceramics production in Poole. Once a major industry in this area.

* Lectures at Parkstone Yacht Club at 7.30 pm

Lectures are free to Members, and Members of Parkstone Yacht Club. There is a small charge for other visitors/guests.

Visits and Suppers are by pre-booking forms.

Enquiries to Poole Maritime Offices (open every Thursday 10-12 am) where booking and membership forms are available. The Offices, Library and other resources are upstairs in Canford Cliffs Library. Entrance from the gardens at rear.
